Mango is a fruit native to Southern Asia, especially from eastern India. The suppliers of mango tommy are from dry and wet tropical land, such as Ecuador, India, Southeast Asia, Central and South America, including Mexico.

Mexico is one of the largest producer of mangoes in the world with huge variety such as Tommy Atkins, Kent, Keith and Haden. Citrofrut is a principal producers of this fruit in the country characterized for its orchards with certified international standards.

The worldwide exports of mango experienced a 23% year on year increase, according to the FAO. The main countries that produce mangoes are: India, China, Thailand, Indonesia, Mexico.

Mexico is the fifth mango producing country in the world with 2 million tons production, It has a production growing rate of 3% (CAGR 2015-21). In 2020, its production grew 4%, higher than the rate for 2019 (SIAP, 2020).

Main characteristics of the mango tommy

Tommy mango has a balance between swetness and fresh tangy flovour. It is highly valued for its very long shelf life with a little bruising or degradation during the transportation process. Tommy mangoes are tropical fruits with a medium to large size and dark red-blushed skin in oval shape.
